Clerics: The first clerics to Astor were personally elevated by the goddess from her most trusted inner circle of assassins. They were given power beyond their years of experience, a rare show of recognition by their former leader. She set down edicts to each of the Eight, on how she wanted her following run. Now, the high priests teach incoming clerics of the faith. Any prospective cleric of Astor must have at least one level in rogue, ninja or similar stealth oriented class, the more the better. They must have killed at least one humanoid creature with a CR equal to their open, either in one on one combat, or through assassination. Once they are inducted into the clergy, they are taught how to best combine their divine magic and domain abilities with their skills as killers. Luckily, the high priests have the necessary magic to regenerate the tongues of their clergy, and joining is a guaranteed way of getting your tongue back. The high priests, being extremely proficient killers, wear whatever they are most comfortable in, be it robes or armor. The clergy under them, the lower priests, and the acolytes, are required to wear black robes with silver patterns resembling the bladed chain of their goddess sewn into the back of the robes. Brand new members wear plain black robes, but as they rise through the ranks, a new blade is stitched into the pattern, designating their new station. This allows non clergy and lower ranked members to know the appropriate level of respect to show, lest they be killed for their impunity later. Within the Guild of the Silent Tongues and the Faith of the Lady of Blades, clerics serve a variety of roles. Within the guild, they serve as advisers, healers, informants, teachers, and of course, assassins. Outside of the guild, in the newly budding religion, clerics serve as mentors to young assassins and killers, healers to their flock, and as a way to aid killers on the run from the authority. Those outside of the “church” may approach a clergy member and discuss terms for an assassination contract. The contract may or may not be carried out, depending on if the client makes a good enough “donation” to the church.
Prayers: Formal prayers are really only said by the high priests when communing with their goddess. Otherwise, prayers are very informal and said in the moment. Typical prayers are ones asking for a lucrative contract, a clean kill, or to get away safely.
Temples:
Herald: When Astor really needs someone killed on the Material Plane, she sends Grinner. Grinner is an Assassin Devil with 10 levels of Assassin, and it is very good at what it does. Astor recruited him from the depths of Hell, where he worked for one of the Archdukes. The archduke was not very happy about losing his best assassin, but he keeps his complaints silent; he doesn’t want the newly appointed goddess of murder to send his own assassin back to slay him, or barring that, have Astor herself come calling.
Allies: Astor has allied herself with the best in stealth and killing among the planes. She counts many assassin devils, pain devils, and other devils, extraplanar vampiric and shadow dragons, many creatures from the Plane of Shadow, and her petitioners, as her allies.
Divine Realm: Astor’s personal realm, Last Gasp, is a plane of oozing shadows and darkness, like the Plane of Shadow slowly evaporating. Far off in the starless sky is a weak white sun. It is easy to get lost here, among the shifting shadows. Most terrain types can be found here, from forests of dark trees, to swamps of pooled darkness, to flat plains of shadows, to towering mountains of midnight black rock. It is also deathly quiet; no wind whispers through the trees, no insects fill the air with music, no creatures call out into the darkness. But if one were to listen hard enough, and tune out the ringing sound of silence, they may hear the sounds of sighs, whispers, and the release of a held breath. Those familiar with killing, know these sounds to be the dying breath of creatures and beings murdered throughout the multiverse. Living among the shadows and silence, are a great deal many devils, fiendish predators, and beings of shadow.
Astor watches it all from her mountain citadel, Crystal Night. Atop the highest peak in her realm sits an explosion of black crystal, resembling a crow atop the peak. It his here, in a maze of dark halls and corridors, and among a myriad of traps and wandering monsters and petitioners, that the Lady of Blades resides, watching her children kill in her name across the planes.
